This article is all about the Wheel of Life, a coaching tool to help you find balance across the different areas of your life. I’ll break down the concept, share how it works, and even give you a template so you can try it yourself.
Enjoy (and get ready to reflect)!
What is the Wheel of Life?
The Wheel of Life is a visual way to check in on different areas of your life, helping you see where things are in balance – and where they might need a little extra love. It originally comes from Tibetan Buddhism but, in this context, it’s more about gaining a personal overview of work, health, relationships, and personal growth.
“Does my wheel feel a little bumpy?”
Imagine the Wheel of Life like a pie chart – yes, pie makes everything better! Each slice represents a key life area, such as work, health, relationships, or recreation. Each slice gets a score from 1 to 10, where 1 means, “This could use some work,” and 10 means, “Feeling fantastic here!”
The idea is to work towards a balanced wheel (because let’s face it, a lopsided wheel makes for a bumpy ride).
Example Time:
Let’s say your work scores an 8 (good stuff!), but your leisure time is at a 3. Yikes! This might mean work is taking up a lot of your energy, while fun and relaxation could use a bit more attention. Ask yourself, “How can I fit in more playtime without throwing my job out the window?”
How to Create Your Own Wheel of Life
Step 1: Grab a circle (downloadable or homemade) and divide it into eight segments. Label each segment with something meaningful to you, like health, friends & family or hobbies.
Step 2: Score yourself in each area. Be honest and take your time to consider how satisfied you are in each area.
Step 3: Reflect. Spot any highs and lows? This gives you a snapshot of where you can boost your happiness and balance.
Step 4: Take action! Start with small changes in areas that need attention and notice how it shapes your day-to-day experience.
download here your wheel of life and start now! :-)
